Hi all,
For now I'll speak in generalities but when we get a few people together
I'll be more specific of line then.
Is anyone available / interested in helping build a case against the two new
nuke plants proposed by FP&L for South Florida, USA. The Public Service
Commission has been petitioned by FP&L for a determination of need for the
facilities. The Deadline to intervene is next Monday, DEC. 3. There is a specific
form and process to work with. It's not rocket science.
My wife Jan and I are customers of FP&L and are also principals in The
Florida Alliance For a Clean Environment. We have experience representing
ourselves "pro se" successfully at the State level, opposing a trash incinerator a
while back, and more recently a coal plant. We intervened in the coal plant
case representing ourselves in front of the Florida Public service Commission.
We didn't like the case the larger 'E organizations were presenting so we got
involved ourselves.
We have no expectation of winning this nuke case nor do we expect to lose it.
It seems a shame to let this FP&L application pass without challenging it in
front of the PSC.
We need expert testimony in at least three areas;
1) nuclear economics, showing the uncertainty of the cost of a new facility.
how unstable and potentially expensive it will be.
2) the availability of clean alternatives and efficiencies and their ability
if fully implemented in Florida to delay the need for nukes now and forever.
3) philosophy to explaining how "reasonable" in relation to clean energy
options vs nuclear, in the age of climate change, requires a resetting of
rational proportional thinking.
We have the reports and arguments documented, what we need is the people
experts to stand with us against the proposal and testify.
The link to the petition is below. We have little money. We are
environmentalist, essentially in this as a labor of
love.................................................We are not corporate environmentalist or self interested
consultants.

If we can put a case together Jan and I will take it to the mat. If we don't
speak up at every opportunity against nuclear power what does that say about
our capacity to manage this issue. Think about it, please.
We have and can make a difference.
