  Debunking New Nukes as a 'Cure' for Peak Oil, Climate Chaos & Resource Wars

  Spinning 'Green' Atoms
  The 'nuclear renaissance' is a public relations hack's spin term currently being floated in a world-wide media blitz by a discredited and moribund nuclear power industry in a last-ditch, desperate attempt to re-brand so-called 'new, inherently safe' nukes as a 'green' energy alternative capable of addressing the converging twin crises of climate change and peak oil.  The 'too-cheap-to-meter, peaceful atom' was a PR scam.  So is this.  Nevertheless, the nutty nukers push on.

  In California, industry allies are pushing an initiative to roll-back a landmark, responsible legislative ban on any further development of nuclear power technology until the insoluble problem of 'safe' long-term storage  of perpetually radioactive nuclear waste has been solved.

  In the US - According to the Union of Atomic Scientists, ( <http://www.ucsusa.org/news/press_release/energy-bill-could-hurt-0059.html> )
  The Senate's version of the energy bill, which will soon go into conference committee to be reconciled with the House version, contains a provision that alters federal loan guarantees and will shortchange renewable energy projects and burden taxpayers with funding costly nuclear power projects. 

  In the EU - Despite long-standing and growing public opposition to nuclear power, according to European Union activists,
  The EURATOM Treaty, establishing the European Atomic Energy Community, was signed in 1957 with the purpose of assisting the development of nuclear power. The treaty entered into force in 1958. The treaty, channels research funds to the nuclear power industry and includes a lending facility with billions of Euro to help build or improve nuclear power plants.   In the 'Third/Developing World' - Countries like China, Pakistan, India, North Korea, Iran and many others across the Middle East understand the inseparability of nuclear electricity generation and nuclear weapons capability.  If successful, the current corporate drive to proliferate nuclear power plants worldwide would escalate the already growing new nuclear arms race.

  Only Kooks Push Nukes

  - Atomic Siamese Twins: the inseparable link between nuclear power and nuclear weapons - there is no way of escaping the fact that proliferation of nuclear power plants on the global scale industry advocates would lead inescapably not only to increased danger of terrorist attacks on nuclear facilities and nuclear materials transport trains and truck convoys, but also to the international proliferation of nuclear weapons.
  - Nuking Democracy: because nuclear power and nuclear weapons systems by their very nature require hyper degrees of secrecy and 'shoot-to-kill' security regimes, they are inherently antithetical to public transparency, legislative and legal accountability and informed democratic decision-making.  Their natural allies are authoritarianism, national security surveillance states, tyranny, dictatorship and fascism (i.e., corporate control of governments and populations for the purpose of  maximizing short-term private profit for ruling elites at the expense of long-term losses to the people and the planet).
