Peace be with you,

United for Peace & Justice -- a national coalition of 1500+ peace &
justice groups (including First Tennessee Progressives) -- is
coordinating eleven END THE WAR NOW rallies around the country on
October 27th, and one of them will be in JONESBOROUGH, Tennessee.
Why Jonesborough? Because we are the home to one of the last
remaining military contractors making uranium weapons -- Aerojet
Ordnance Tennessee.

Working with UFPJ & hosting a regional anti-war rally in Jonesborough
offers us a hugh opportunity: to apply intense pressure on Aerojet
to end production of Depleted Uranium munitions in Jonesborough.

But on October 27th, we can accomplish even more! Together, and in
solidarity with our troops, we will expose the outrageous treatment
of our soldiers who, due to repeated 15-month deployments in DU-
contaminated battlefields, are forced to breathe more and more of the
toxic, radioactive uranium dust from exploded DU weapons.

Once the public understands that DU is AGENT ORANGE ALL OVER AGAIN,
the cry to bring our troops home will start to come from the South --
the area of our nation most dedicated to our soldiers, and still most
supportive of the war.

Not only are our troops suffering leukemia at young ages, but birth
defects are rising in their families at alarming rates. In the
civilian populations in Iraq & Afghanistan -- as well as in Iran,
caught in the cross winds -- childhood cancers have risen 500%. For
more on DU, please spend a few minutes learning from Catholic Sister
Rosalie Bertell, PhD at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgQ79-oDX2o .

The October 27th Rally will start at Noon at Mill Spring Park, with
speeches by the following DU experts and peace advocates:
+++Major Doug Rokke, PhD. (Army DU Expert-Retired) coming in from
Illinois;
+++Richard Cook, Chemist (Army Medic-Retired) coming in from Rhode
Island;
+++Sonia Santiago (Madre Contra la Guerra & Committee for the Rescue
& Development of Vieques) coming in from Puerto Rico;
+++Father John Rausch (Director-Catholic Committee of Appalachia &
Pax Christi's 2007 Teacher of Peace) coming in from Kentucky.

Others being approached are Cynthia McKinney & Ann Wright, among others.

If you would like to add a prominent speaker or musician to the
program, please contact me at Linda.C.Modica at mac.com or call (423)
676-2925. No offer to do some of the legwork for the Oct. 27th event
will be refused!

event can be found at http://www.oct27.org/node/650.

Donations can be made through the www.Oct27.org/jonesborough site or
directly to First Tennessee Progressives at the following mailing
address:

The event insurance alone is likely to cost at least $500, and there
will be bills from the Town of Jonesborough too. So please be as
generous as you can.

In solidarity,
Linda.
