Hi:

Summary: (1. reducing news traffic 2. proposal for list faq)

The last couple of weeks has gone a long way to demonstrate the growing
problem faced by single article posting on the listserver! And it could
get a whole lot worse unless people start actively calling for some
changes here, or start self policing yourself!

Below is today's list of nuclear news stories as of 3PM PDT. Or over 50
news stories. At least once a week the number of daily nuke stories
will go well over 100. /What if I or a mix of some of us posted all 100
plus of these news stories individually?!/ Personally it would drive
most people off the list within a short time as their mail box would be
overwhelmed!

I'm proposing that everyone please stop using the list to post single
news stories unless they can't be found in one of 4 or 5 other easily
accessible locations listed below, or are major breaking news stories
that are being covered live on TV! Please note! I'm not talking about
alerts, events, or activist related work or your own articles, or
reposts of good old documents! Nor am I opposed to talking about news
stories (including the article post) with the hope of getting people to
talk about the content of the story!!!

The below list is where you can see loads of current nuclear news

1. Newsvine: Nuclear No Thanks! <http://nuclear-no-thanks.newsvine.com/>
2. State of Nevada Nuclear News Wire Service
<http://www.state.nv.us/nucwaste/whatsnew.htm>
3. The Radiation Bulletin
<http://www.energy-net.org/N-LET/EN/0NEWS/07O14N2.HTM> (subscription
required) or RSS News Feed
<http://www.energy-net.org/N-LET/EN/0FEED/TODAY.XML>
4. del.icio.us <http://del.icio.us/aaenergynet/nuke.news> or diigo
<http://groups.diigo.com/groups/nukenews> social networking services
5 Topix <http://www.topix.net/>

Note, that if you don't see your article on any of the above, you can
add them immediately to #1 and #4
Number 3 requires that you send the article via email to
news at energy-net.org and #2 requires you send the url to
nwpo at nuc.state.nv.us <mailto:nwpo at nuc.state.nv.us> (but please verify
that the article hasn't already been posted!!!) Personally I would hope
that more of you consider #4, which allows for the development of a
large independent network of news sources. (please contact me like 6-8
folks already have for more).

*Proposal to setup list faq*

Lastly, when listservers were originally developed, every single one
required that the group create a FAQ (frequently asked questions)
document that dealt with things like list etiquette, subject posting
agreements, current campaigns/projects, important documents of interest,
links, and even a membership list so that individuals could contact each
other. FAQ's could be as short as a couple of lines up to extensive,
detailed summaries of technical issues etc. Wouldn't it be nice to get
this listserver a bit more organized by creating a FAQ? The issue isn't
going away tomorrow!
